I scream for ice cream

July 31st, 2013
Author: Susie Q

Summer is in full bloom and I like to take my children out for ice cream on a regular basis.  My problem is that all ice cream places offer a million flavors and I find that I am always sticking to a few staples.  I would love to try everything but I don’t know if I would like it and I don’t want to be pressured by the long line behind me and have to hurry when I try a sample.

What are your favorite flavors?

What do you normally choose?

Taking Care of Parents

July 28th, 2013
Author: Linda W

It is so difficult to come to a point in your life where you are a care giver for your parents. It is an honor to be able to care for the people that have loved you and raised you to be the woman that you are today but it is also very difficult to see your idols in that condition that they can not do what they have done your whole life…. care for others.

If you have been in this situation, what words of wisdom do you have?

It is that time again….school shopping. It seems with every economic hardship, the government is cutting money to schools and the hardship is being passed to the families. The mandatory school supply list is getting longer and longer. Last year the school supplies for my middle schooler were $150 and for my high schooler they were $300.
(that is NOT including clothes….just the folders/binders/calculators/paper/highlighters/pens/rulers etc)

This calls for some creative shopping.

* First I salvage what I can from the year before

* Then I start using the Sunday paper for sales..don’t wait till the last minute as there are very few sales the first week of school.

* Shop EARLY…. Don’t wait until just before school that is when the stores jack up the prices.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Pets have a way of enhancing people’s lives! It has been scientifically proven that spending time with a pet can lower your blood pressure and your stress. At our house we have 2 dogs, 1 tortoise, 3 turtles, 3 frogs, and many fish. (now you won’t be surprised to hear that my oldest daughter is going to attend school next fall for vet school….)

What pets do you have and how do they help enhance YOUR life?

Motivation

July 12th, 2013
Author: Linda W

People find motivation in many different forms. I find it in poems, songs, and reflection time. Here is an amazing poem that helps motivate me.

Go somewhere good
+++++++++++++++++++

In your mind, go somewhere good. Life has infinite
possibilities, and you can imagine whichever ones you
choose.

You don’t have to settle for anything less than an
outstanding positive perspective. Use the power of your
thoughts to journey to a place that will give you that
perspective.

Connect yourself, again and again, to what you value most.
Remind yourself constantly why life can be so amazingly
good.

Keep your focus on life’s best possibilities. Point your
thoughts solidly in the direction of where you most want to
go.

Your thoughts have the power to construct a truly beautiful
and personally fulfilling world. And then those thoughts can
lead you to make that world a reality.

In your mind, go somewhere good. And you’ll find the energy
and inspiration to bring the whole of your life there too.

Ralph Marston

I just ran across a great story that illustrates the importance of thinking outside the box and the willingness to change course!

On a dark and foggy night in the midst of a stormy sea, the captain of a ship spotted what seemed to be the light from another ship in the distance. He quickly went to his station and flashed a message across the water, ” Change your course twenty degrees north. No sooner had he done this than a reply flashed back, “Change your course twenty degrees south.” The captain became angry and flashed back, “I am a captain and I commander in the naval forces, and I say change your course twenty degrees north.” The responding message was signaled back, ” I am a seaman first class with no commander, and I say change your course twenty degrees south.: This infuriated the captain who now signaled, ” I am in a battleship, and I say change your course twenty degrees north.” There was a brief pause as the angry captain awaited the reply. Finally the response came, ” I say change your course twenty degrees south… I am in a lighthouse!”

We at Women’s Dream Team can help you adjust to change and lead you on a road of financial freedom for women!

Does anyone have a great summer idea that is simple?
