A Child’s Path

October 30th, 2012
Author: Anita L

Being a mother, can have both its joys and sorrows.First, the joys. So here you are; expecting your bundle or bundles of joy, within a few months, you are preparing your home and family for the new arrival;you are picking and choosing names, hopefully nothing too embarassing for them. Now you are feeling signs of live while your baby is moving inside you while at the same time kicking your insides to pieces. Now here comes the appointed day when you finally give birth, and you and your baby are meeting each other for the first time face to face, tears may be shed because the emotions run really high at this time especially if it is your first, and so now a bond is forming between the two of you Next, the caring of your baby begins before you even leave the hosptial. After a few days stay in the recovery room, you and your little one are now home and you have stepped deeper into your “MOMMY” role, and your baby’s trust in you is being well established. Soon things begin to change beacuase your baby is growing older and going through stages, and you you have begun to witness these “Firsts” milestones, such as, the first tooth, the first steps, the first words, and the first tantrums. Yes, even with the tantrums these are still joys for a mother. Now for the sorrows. Months have turned into years and your baby has become a teenager. This is the time where your child is trying to find him or herself and their place in life which can prove to be a difficult for them because of the peer pressure they may struggle with. This is also a time when they want to fit in with the in crowd so they do whattheir friends do and not realizing that some of the activities they choose may render them some sort of negative consequences. This time can also prove be difficult for a mother because she may be at a loss for what to do.The first thing she may do is try to talk to her teen to find out what is going on, but only to be shut out. Some mothers may have to resort to something a bit more astringent. So what does a mother do to see that her teen is steered back on the right track? Do we keep trying to no avail, or do we just allow them to find their own way? And is our path the right one for them?
What do you think?

Veterans

October 28th, 2012
Author: Linda W

I heard a song on the radio today in tribue of Veteran’s Day and it really sums it up.
It is from Billy Rae Cyrus.
Some Gave All lyrics

I knew a man called him Sandy Kane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don’t understand
About the reasons we are free

I can’t forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cries
As he said these words to me

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

Now Sandy Kane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride
And don’t forget those who died America can’t you see

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall
Some gave all

Some gave all

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

What other songs do you know that honor veterans?

Holiday Crafts? Who does them?

October 25th, 2012
Author: Kristin Parker

Okay, who out in the great big world still does Holiday Crafts? I still do! It’s so fun depending on what craft it is. I crochet & knit. I love the preemie-beanies for the local hospital. Hats, scarfs, place settings, & bath sets. Those are my favorites during the holidays because they are easy and make great gifts for everyone. Keeps the budget under control too!

Example: In 2010, everyone (14 people) received a body towel, hat, socks, body wash, &  scarf  for Christmas. $37.00 dollars later, everyone was happy!

Yes, Santa still showed up, but he had a little competition!!!

You know, over the years, people have always asked,” Where’s the String Bean Casserole?” Well, I want to know how have you changed up your menus? At my home we no longer due the Big Meal! (Turkey with all of the trimmings!) We do a meat platter, cheese platter, & vegetable platter. We aren’t any longer stuck in the kitchen all day, and then dead to the world by 2 in the afternoon. We have been doing this for the past 5 years and love it. We do the same thing for Christmas. That way we can enjoy our family time and play with all of the new toys the kids get. No mess @ the end of the day either! We still do all of the traditional cooking, but it’s done a week or so before the holiday… Try it out, you might find out that it works for your family too!

Winter Gardening

October 22nd, 2012
Author: Susie Q

I live up in New York so all of my beautiful flowers and plants are slowly withering away (it will be quick and sudden as soon as we get our first frost) but I have always wondered about winter gardening down South.  What do you grow in the winter?  Are there special challenges?

Living in New York right now, there are some amazing views with the greens/yellows/oranges/reds all blending together…. I am in awe just taking a walk or riding in the car.  What is your fall view?

Dealing with Illness

October 22nd, 2012
Author: Linda W

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have to deal with illness. It is tough to deal with what needs to get done when you are constantly reminded that your body is not going to do everything that your mind wants it to. Yes you must listen to your doctors and do what they recommend (this varies due to the severity and nature of your illness) but you also need to stay mentally strong and on top of “your game” . How do YOU do that?

I have always wondered why everyone rushes the holidays? I saw Halloween decorations up in my neighborhood in Sept! I also notice every year that Thanksgiving is barely even looked at. Christmas trees are up, houses are decorated even before Thanksgiving is over. I really like to take my time and enjoy each holiday as it comes. I like to let the kids enjoy Halloween the month of Oct, and watch as they have a blast. Then I decorate for Thanksgiving. I want my kids to be able to understand how important this holiday is and give thanks for all we have!!! I never rush Christmas just for the importance of giving thanks. Then the first weekend of Dec, we change to Christmas. That gives me plenty of time to teach about each holiday. What do you do in your house?

Are You a Sandwich?

October 16th, 2012
Author: Linda W

Do you find yourself in the Sandwich Generation? I am rushing between helping my mother take care of my father in the hospital and being there to raise my two children.

My schedule today was crazy between doctor visits, physical therapy, and then swim practice, soccer practice and making sure the book report is ready and the science test is studied for…oh and getting a healthy dinner on the table.

I am so glad that I work with an excellent bunch of Women Entrepreneurs with Women’s Dream Team. They lead by example and show women that we can be there for others that need us, while still providing financially for our families. I love that I can work this business at the side of a soccer field, in the hallway of a hospital or where even in the waiting room of the orthodontist.

Books

October 15th, 2012
Author: Linda W

I would love to find a great book to read this fall, especially on cold rainy nights. Reading just relaxes me and allows me to discover new and exciting things.

Has anyone read a great book lately?
